Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) works with many partners which provide services to newcomers to Canada to help and supports their settlement.

IRCC plays an important in doing so and has taken a new initiative to improve these settlement services through the Service Delivery Improvements funding stream and will be providing funding.

North York Community House (NYCH) has been selected for this initiative and to help deliver these important settlement services to newcomers.

This project includes user-friendly design and innovation practices. NYCH will form a team of integrated researchers and cultural curators.

Staff will be coached to do ethnographic field work with end-users, visualize trends, prototype new practice models, and develop new kinds of evaluation metrics and backend data systems for project execution.

Settlement Services Programs

These types of programs have been very useful for newcomers to settle. Few of the many services they provide are;

• Filling out forms: Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program, Child Tax Benefit, HST/GST, Welcome Policy, Citizenship Application, Permanent Resident Card Renewal, etc.
• Translation and Interpretation
• Information/Referral on: Educational Services, Employment Services, Health Services, Legal Services, Housing Services
• English Conversation Classes, Citizenship Support Classes
• Workshops on Employment and Self-Employment, Customer Service, Health and Nutrition, Parenting, Leadership, etc.
